Haryana to Boost Grain Storage by 20 Lakh Metric Tonnes

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to enhance the state's food grain storage infrastructure to better protect farmers' produce and minimize post-harvest losses. As part of the initiative, the state aims to add 20 lakh metric tonnes of grain storage capacity, with authorities instructed to undertake all necessary measures to achieve the target.

The directive was issued during a review meeting on the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department’s five-year roadmap and action plan under Haryana Vision-2047, held at the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Tuesday, according to an official statement.

During the meeting, J Ganesan, Commissioner and Secretary of the department, noted that limited warehousing facilities and the continued reliance on open storage lead to annual losses of approximately 4–5 percent of Haryana’s food grain output. The planned expansion of storage infrastructure is intended to address these shortcomings, improve grain preservation, and strengthen the state’s agricultural supply chain.
